The A-Z of autumn's hottest trends: We've got the season covered from Anna Karenina to Zoology

A... is for Anna Karenina

Expect a Russian revolution on the High Street this autumn thanks to Valentino's beautiful homage to folk dresses, rich with intricate pattern and embellishment, and Alice Temperley's fabulous military great coats, ornate with frogging and topped with Cossack-style fur hats. See Keira Knightley pull off the look on the big screen when she plays Anna Karenina in British director Joe Wright's new adaptation of the Tolstoy classic.

B... is for Bejewelled

The new season is dripping with dazzling metallic and baroque details. At Prada coats and tunics ar e covered in chunky Perspex beads; duchesse satin skirts are lush with sequined flowers at Dior, while Louis Vuitton coats feature 3D patterns in hologram beading. Get the look by adding a jewelled collar necklace to a colourful knit - Asos has a suitably ornate version for £185.

    C... is for Chinoiserie

Dries Van Noten scoured the archives at the V&A to produce a collection based on Korean, Japanese and Chinese silks. Proenza Schouler reworked oriental silks into cool bombers and mini skirt suits, while Jason Wu plundered traditional Qing Dynasty silks and embroideries. On the High Street, try this graphic tube dress from Topshop (£60).

    D... is for Downton

The Crawleys are about to return to our screens and the fashion world is paying suitable homage to everyone's favourite slice of Sunday night escapism. Tweeds and Argyle socks, Fair Isle knits and hacking jacket s al l appeared on the autumn catwalks, notably at Ralph Lauren where the designer even played John Lunn's Downton soundtrack.

    E... is for Equestrian

Saddle up and trot on - all things horsey are in the spotlight as riding attire inspires designers from Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy to Gucci's Frida Giannini. It's more sexy dressage than shires gymkhana - think leather jodhpurs, dramatic highwayman capes, long silk scarves tied high on the neck and knee high boots.
On trend: From left, knee-high boots will be en vogue thanks to the equestrian look, deep red lips will be a make-up staple while Grace Coddington will release her memoirs

    F... is for Femme Fatale

Glamour goes dark and mysterious this season with designers opting for nude make-up punctuated with deep red lips. At Gucci, make-up artist Pat McGrath opted for a dark cherry lip colour - try Revlon's Black Cherry (£7.29).

    G... is for Grace

She upstaged Anna Wintour in the brilliant U.S. Vogue documentary The September Issue and is a living fashion legend. This November, Brit-born stylist Grace Coddington will spill the beans on her rise to the top of the fashion business in her memoirs, which were sold to Random House for a rumoured £750,000. Expect fabulous insider fashion secrets and a riveting read that spans the former model's six-decade career.

H... is for High Street Hysteria

H&M's latest collaboration is perhaps their most conceptual yet with Maison Martin Margiela - look out for back-to-front clothes, trailing hems and maybe even a horse-hoof boot or two.
iPad case: Reiss's Corina doubles as a chic clutch (£95)

    I... is for iPad Case

There's barely a designer who hasn't cottoned on to the profit boosting appeal of the patterned, printed or perfectly plain iPad case and the High Street has caught on to the trend too. Reiss's Corina case is in ruched faux leather and can double-up as a chic clutch (£95).

    J... is for Jacquard

Rich metallic jacquards and brocades, as seen at Jonathan Saunders, are bringing a shot of luxe lushness to the new season - Zara's burnished gold geometric jacquard trousers have a flattering slim cut and look great worn with a crisp white shirt or when contrasted with dramatic.

    K... is for Cool Knits

Jumpers have never been so desirable - young London designers from Jonathan Saunders to Christopher Kane have reinvented the humble knit with intense colours and eye-popping geometric patterns.

    L... is for Leather

Leather will be the material of choice for trend-setters this autumn - choose from glossy black shifts and cool bombers, chic capes or the plainest pencil skirt. The High Street has some great leather jackets - try All Saints' Oxblood leather biker (£350) or this supersoft washed leather black jacket with quilted sleeves from Karen Millen (£325).

    M... is for Midas Touch

After the Olympic gold rush comes a fashion gold rush with ornate baroque adornment bringing shimmer and shine to the dark days of autumn. Try Zara's gold sequin cardigan (£119), over a white T-shirt and jeans or khaki trousers.

    N... is for New Guard

All eyes will be on Paris come October when Hedi Slimane finally unveils his first full collection for the relaunched Saint Laurent Paris. He will have some competition for the limelight - Raf Simons will be revealing his first ready-to-wear collection for Christian Dior in the same week, while Phoebe Philo will return from maternity leave with another collection for Celine.

    O... is for Optical Prints

Embrace autumn's most dazzling geometric prints as seen at Kenzo, Prada, Versus and Miu Miu. On the catwalks the prints were worn head-to-toe in dazzling pant suits, or follow Stella McCartney's lead with an all-in-one - Reiss's silk Duffy jumpsuit (£265) will ensure you stand out from the crowd.

    P... is for Peplum

The peplum's reign continues on crisp pencil skirts, jackets and cocktail dresses. Combine one with a print in Hobbs's gorgeous water-colour floral Caravaggio dress (£199).

    Q... is for Queen's Jewels

There 's still time to celebrate the Queen's jubilee year and wonder at her serious collection of rocks at Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration. The show features gems from the past 200 years of British monarchs and runs at Buckingham Palace until October 7.
Crown jewels: Queen Victoria's small diamond crown is part of an exhibition at Buckingham Palace

    R... is for Red

The most dazzling shade to wear this winter will be pillarbox red - try an eye-popping coat or a crisp form-fitting dress like this scoop-back peplum dress from H&M (£29.99).
Eccentric: Tim Walker's fashion photography and portraits will be the focus of an exhibition at Somerset House opening in October

    S... is for Super Snapper

Tim Walker's fantastical and often eccentric fashion photography and portraits will be the focus of an exhibition at Somerset House opening in October. An accompanying book is published by Thames & Hudson (£45).

    T... is for Tinseltown

See more than 100 iconic Hollywood movie costumes up close from sumptuous period dramas such as Dangerous Liaisons to much-loved classics including Some Like It Hot and Breakfast at Tiffany's. From October 20 until January 27 at the V&A in London.

    U... is for Uncorked

Bordeaux, claret or deepest burgundy - autumn's new shades are all rather boozy sounding. Wear the colour head-to-toe as seen at Haider Ackermann. On the High Street Banana Republic has great takes on this look including this claret wrap coat (£175).
Fashion show: A Valentino exhibition will be held at Somerset House
Fashion show: A Valentino exhibition will be held at Somerset House

    V... is for Valentino

The Italian couturier may have retired almost five years ago but he's not going quietly - his latest exhibition, which will be held at Somerset House, will display never seen before personal artefacts as well as iconic pieces including Jackie Kennedy's wedding dress.

    W... is for Waist Cinchers

The waist is back in focus as designers exaggerate curves with stand-out belts - from Joseph Altuzarra's wide leather Berber bands to Karl Lagerfeld's sculptural corset belts in leather and ponyskin for Fendi. Wear over coats and suits or a fluffy fur jacket as seen at DKNY. The black leather Marisa peplum belt at Hobbs (£99) ticks two trends at once.

    X... is for XXL

Exaggerated shoulders, giant cocooning coats and pumped up volumes, seen on the Chloe catwalk, are bringing supersize proportions to the new season. Handle this trend with care - or extreme caution.
    Go dotty: J Crew kits
    Go dotty: J Crew kits

    Y... is for Yayoi Kusama

Louis Vuitton 's collaboration with the polka-dot-crazed Japanese pop artist continues this autumn with the second instalment having landed at Selfridges last week. Get the look with J Crew's fabulous dotty knits in merino wool or cashmere.

    Z... is for Zoology

Lion-head belts at Lanvin, animal knits at Altuzarra, Kenzo and Burberry and wild wooly monsters at Mulberry; the fashion world has gone animalmad this season. The easiest way to channel the mood though is with an animal print. Try the Dotty Cheetah print dress at Whistles (£95).

Now we can all be like Cinderella as DSW launches the Glass Slipper Collection inspired by the Disney classic (Prince Charming not included)

Christian Louboutin unveiled his interpretation of Cinderella's glass slipper back in July, but as only twenty pairs were made many Disney fans were left disappointed.
However now Ohio-based footwear retailer Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) has announced a purse-friendly collection of princess-worthy shoes inspired by the 1950 animated classic, which are set to go on sale this fall.
The line, branded the Glass Slipper Collection, ranges from $59.95 to $89.95, with each pair embossed with a carriage logo and blue jewel on the sole.
How many pairs of glass slippers does a girl need? DSW collaborated with Disney on a limited edition shoe range called The Glass Slipper Collection

Tapping into a woman’s obsession with shoes and fantasy, the vertiginous heels are rendered in satin, lace and tulle overlays, and festooned with bows, bugle beads and rhinestones.

Explaining the design process Debbie Ferrée, spokesperson for DSW, said: ‘The inspiration for the line came from the vision of Disney artist Mary Blair's original art for the film,’
‘We took a close look at the film's aesthetic details-the rich textures and fabric, the beautiful blue in Cinderella's dress-even the French rococo-inspired scenery.

'Every little whimsical touch featured in the footwear collection came right out of the film.’
French shoe designer Christian Louboutin, opted for barely-there cream lace, Swarovski crystal embellishments and delicate butterfly motifs for his Cinderella slippers which mark the film’s re-release.
On July 5, he debuted his version on the Christian Louboutin Facebook page with the photo caption, ‘Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, Cinderella has a red sole shoe.’
These whimsical shoes, bestowed to lucky winners of a Disney contest in 19 countries this fall, takes the glamour and fantasy up a few notches.
The designer said he was thrilled to collaborate with Disney, telling Vogue UK: ‘Cinderella is not only an iconic character when it comes to beauty, grace and fairytale love, but also shoes.
'The slipper is the magic wand of transformation, which conjures confidence, beauty and love. There are no limits in the world of fantasy and there is always a happily ever after.’

First class Fido: Dogs get their OWN £1,250 seats so they can sit beside their owners on airliners

The passenger in the seat next to mine yawns contentedly as we taxi along the runway.
He hardly stirs when the engines start to roar and the plane accelerates before lifting into the sky.
By the time our sleek, six-seater jet reaches cruising height his head has dropped and his eyes have closed.
Ready for takeoff: Finally there is a service with which to treat your pooch to a dignified mode of flying, but it will cost you £1,250
Ready for takeoff: Finally there is a way for owners to treat their pooches to a dignified mode of flying
During the two hour hop to Palma, on the island of Mallorca, where his family has a holiday home, my neighbour eschews his complimentary glass of Moet and Chandon champagne and is tempted neither by the inflight entertainment or the pile of glossy magazines.
He looks every inch the high flyer – prosperous, self-assured, and remarkably well-groomed. My fellow passenger, Dylan, is a dog.

He belongs to a new breed of pampered mutts who, rather than being confined to cages in the hold along with the cargo, sit in their own leather-upholstered seats in the cabin next to their owners.
The service is being offered by Victor - a private jet charter company. It isn’t a cheap option.
Dylan, an eight-year-old miniature Schnauzer, is being charged £1,250 for a seat on a Victor flight to Palma, exactly the same as it costs humans using the service.
Dogs have long travelled alongside their owners - but only if they are fortunate enough to be owned by someone with their own jet - but is is all about to change

And a seat is what he gets, not a space on the floor at the back of the plane near the lavatories, not a dedicated mat next to the exit.
At one point, Dylan stares out of the window of the Lear40 jet and seems genuinely enthralled by the wispy cloud formation gathering a few hundred feet below.
He enjoys the landing, too, as we soar over the Mediterranean and as buildings come into focus as the pilot makes his descent.

'How can you have a proper family holiday if you don’t take the family dog with you?' asks Dylan’s owner, Isabelle Frank, who live in Putney, south-west London
'In the past we have put him in the hold but the trauma was terrible for both of us. It used to break my heart seeing him in a crate on the runway waiting to be hoisted on board.'
Apparently Dylan didn’t care for it much either. Mrs Frank says he began to panic as soon as he saw empty suitcases being brought out of the cupboard.
'We tried putting the cage in the house for a few weeks before travelling in the hope that he would get used to it, but he never did.
        Dylan was definitely enjoying himself
Strapped in safely: Dylan pictured before takeoff and during the flight wearing a seatbelt

Happy dog: Dylan definitely preferred fling in his own seat to taking the cargo route in a cage

'In fact, he would run in the opposite direction and was clearly in distress just at the thought of it. Look at him now. He’s his normal happy self.'
He certainly looks chirpy. Before disembarking, he pauses momentarily at the top of the plane’s steps and I half expect him to pull on a pair of flashy sunglasses or doff a Panama hat to the flight attendant.
Dog days are over: Despite the high cost the company believes many owners will jump at the chance to bring their pets on board
Dog days are over: Despite the high cost the company believes many owners will jump at the chance to bring their pets on board
Of course, some dogs have long traveled in this kind of luxury. The American socialite Paris Hilton, heiress to the hotel empire, has always taken her various chihuahuas and Yorkshire terriers on trips aboard her private plane.
In this respect she took after the Hollywood actress Zsa Zsa Gabor who was at one time married to the heiresses’ great-grandfather Conrad Hilton.
Upgraded: This little terrier seems very pleased to avoid travelling in cargo

In 1989, Gabor made headlines across the world when, during a stopover in Atlanta on a flight from Los Angeles to Florida, she let her two Shih Tzu dogs out of their designated kennels and allowed them to run free in the cabin.
When she refused to lock them up again, Gabor and the Shih Tzus were briskly escorted from the plane by Atlanta police.
For dog owners as devoted as Paris, but without the resources to maintain a private jet, Victor is the first company to make it possible to travel with your pet on a ‘per seat’ basis just as you would if booking for a human.
'A happy dog makes a happy owner,' says Clive Jackson, the founder of Victor, which officially launches its dog service this week.
'I realised  there were a lot of people who weren’t going on holiday to places like Mallorca because they couldn’t take their dogs with them. We’re opening a door for them.
'I got talking to one woman who had seen her dog yelping in its cage upside down on a conveyor belt after she went the cargo route. She said she would never put her dog through that again.'
Mallorca has proved a good hunting ground for entrepreneur Jackson. The Spanish island is a favourite with British second home owners. Indeed, Jackson has a house there himself. He doesn’t own a dog but he knows plenty of people who do.
Lynne Franks, the PR guru and inspiration for Edina Monsoon’s chatacter in the sitcom Absolutely Fabulous, has booked a seat next month for her and Noodle, a Labrador cross.
'She is the love of my life and the thought of her being confined to a small space for hours on end and treated like cargo is appalling,' says Franks. 'Now there is a civilised way for her to travel with me. I can’t wait.'
Rule changes mean that from this year, all dogs and cats can come and go from the UK without spending time in quarantine providing they have a passport, are correctly micro-chipped and been vaccinated against rabies.
Private flights: No commercial airline allows dogs or cats to travel in the cabin with their owners and many charge high fees for cargo travel
Private flights: No commercial airline allows dogs or cats to travel in the cabin with their owners and many charge high fees for cargo travel
But no commercial airline allows dogs or cats to travel in the cabin with their owners. Monarch charges around £1,000 for a cage in the hold on its London to Palma service, but neither easyJet or Ryanair carry dogs or cats even as cargo.
So, how do other passengers react to finding themselves sharing an arm rest with a dog? For my part, the company of Dylan was infinitely preferable to that of a toddler repeating every ten minutes: 'Are we nearly there yet?'
On arrival in Palma, I ask Dylan if he will remain in his seat for a photograph and he’s only too pleased to oblige.
Never again will he be put in kennels when the family goes abroad. Never again will he be regarded as excess luggage or locked in a cage 30,000ft in the air.
'Once he gets a taste for this he’ll probably want to pilot the plane himself,' says Mrs Frank.

A source told Life&Style'Adele and Simon managed to keep the baby news a secret for so long that there are rumours they’ve already gotten married, too.
'She’s an old-fashioned girl and can’t wait to be part of a family unit. She just wants to focus on the baby and the man she loves.'
The pictures are the first of the star since announcing her pregnancy in June via her website. There has been no updates to the site since then.

The 24-year-old enjoyed one of her last nights out before giving birth by having a quiet dinner at Eight Over Eight and window-shopping at Fulham Road’s antiques shops and bookstores.
'Adele was relaxed and calm, and she and Simon looked really great together,' an eyewitness tells Life & Style.
'She seemed very, very happy. She absolutely does have a pregnancy glow.
Adele's spokesman has not yet responded to MailOnline's request for comment.
The pictures can be seen in the latest issue of Life & Style magazine which is on newsstands now.
