Home is where the art is: Objects from artist Jack Vettriano's flat which featured in some of his most famous paintings set to be sold at auction

At first glance they are just pieces of furniture and objects which could belong in any normal house.
However, many of these items have been immortalised in some of the most famous paintings of Scottish artist Jack Vettriano.
The 60-year-old is selling the contents of his studio flat in Fife - which includes these everyday items featured in his work.

He is thought to have painted many of his works in the Kirkcaldy property, but has decided to sell up after 'spending an increasing amount of time in London'.
The items paint a picture themselves of the artist at work.
But most, including some props featured in his art, are expected to fetch just a few pounds at Shapes' auction in Edinburgh this Saturday.

Among the highlights available to fans of the Scottish painter is Vettriano's 'late Victorian sofa' which featured in the painting 'Original Sin' - where woman in a black dress is reclining and holding an apple.
The sofa is described as having a 'serpentine cushioned back over liar arms, sprung seat, plain frieze panel and lobed bracket feet' and is estimated to sell for £150 to £250.
Vettriano's 1950s red upholstered side chair, which can be seen in his paintings 'Self Portrait', 'The Critical Hour' and 'Rachel in the Studio', is expected to fetch just £40 to £60.

And a white phone, 'circular dial over exchange slide', believed to have featured in the painting 'The Arrangement' is also expected to be snapped up for just £40 to £60.
The original oil painting shows a naked woman sitting on the edge of a bed, a smoking cigarette in one hand and the phone in the other.
Vettriano's paint-board and paint-spattered stainless steel kettles will also go under the hammer, for as little as £20 each.
Other items, some of which may also feature in Vettriano's work include a black officers jacket with quadruple gold banded cuffs - including a coat stand; a Players' cigarettes vending machine; a pair of Art Deco mahogany and chrome book ends; a desk fan; a table lamp with a clock and pen holders; and a Brown Paxette Electromatic camera and tripod.
Vettriano is even selling his Espresso percolator by Salton and 'The Instant Juice Press' with a combined estimated price of just £20 to £30, and a pair of thermos jugs which should fetch the same.
The flat itself recently featured in a BBC Scotland documentary in which Vettriano and fellow Fifer, crime writer Ian Rankin, interviewed each other.

Gavin Lindsay, Shapes senior auctioneer, said: 'A member of Jack's family is selling the flat and clearing some of the contents out on his behalf.
'Many of the lots are everyday items of quite low value, but some feature in Vettriano's paintings.
'His red chair appears to be in at least three of his paintings including Rachel in the Studio, the sofa from Original Sin, and we can see the white telephone in a painting called The Arrangement.
'Other interesting items include his artist's board, and his kettle, which is covered in his paint.
'Any other paint spattered kettle would be worthless, but we think people will be very interested in this one.'
Furniture from the property up for sale includes a pair of cushioned arm chairs; a rectangular yew sideboard with frosted glass doors; a pair of low square tables; a rectangular table and four chairs; and a red plastic phone 'with a Kirkaldy table'.
The most expensive items are a pair of brown leather armchairs, each with 'arched back over loose cushion seat, sabre arms and splayed legs, estimated to fetch £400 to £600.

Vettriano was born Jack Hoggan, in Fife in 1951 and raised in Methil. He rose from working in the coal-fields to become one of Britain's best known contemporary artists.
Self taught, his work first came to public prominence at the Royal Scottish Academy open exhibition in 1988.
In 2004 his most famous painting, The Singing Butler, fetched £744,800 at auction.
He is estimated to make  £500,000 a year from royalties on sales of prints.
Vettriano's 1982 Mercedes 380 SI Auto, 3800cc car, which was due to feature in the sale at an estimated £7000 to £8000, has already been sold privately, according to Shapes.
In February, Vettriano was caught with illegal amphetamine near his flat after getting behind the wheel of his car while twice the legal drink-drive limit.

His lawyer told Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court the artist had been working late into the evening of Saturday, January 7, in his flat in Nairn Street.
Sheriff Maxwell Hendry banned him from driving for 18 months and fined him £800.
Vettriano is arguably Scotland's best known artist and his erotic paintings and world-wide print sales have earned him a fortune, and won him followers including First Minister Alex Salmond, screen star, Jack Nicholson, and Sir Alex Ferguson.
Despite his enormous success, the self-taught painter has been ignored by the establishment which has refused to display his works.
That changed last year when it was announced one of his paintings would be put on display at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.
