£19,500 for a signed photograph: Fifty years after her death Marilyn Monroe is still a huge earner for clever collectors

From the platinum blonde hair and ruby red lips to the beauty mark and those curves, as we mark the 50th anniversary of her death, the legend of Marilyn Monroe lives on, more vibrantly than ever.
In May 1962, just a few months before her death, Monroe famously sang 'Happy Birthday' to President John F. Kennedy wearing a floor-length sheath of a dress adorned with rhinestones.
The so-called 'JFK Dress' sold for over $1.2 million at auction, which serves to convey Marilyn's enduring appeal, and it seems nothing has changed as more memorabilia is flying off the shelves for thousands.

One website, Vintage Seekers, are offering an incredibly unique and rare collection of memorabilia including a truly extraordinary 1956 Cecil Beaton photograph signed by Marilyn herself, which is on offer for a staggering £19,500.
The collection ranges from a 1957 The Prince and the Showgirl Spanish Release Poster of the starlet which is going for a lower end £3,750.00 right up to a 1950s signed magazine cut-out of the beauty which is fetching £9,950.

From Taylor Swift's Teen Choice Award attire, to Scarlett Johansson in the Dolce and Gabbana advert, Marilyn's style lives on and her look is emulated by women worldwide.
Leading Comfort Brights Style & Colour Psychologist, Kate Nightingale says:  'Marilyn’s timeless style and her larger-than-life character has inspired women and designers across the world for decades.
'It’s no wonder that 50 years on, people are willing to spend a considerable amount of money to have a piece of the icon that was Marilyn Monroe.'
In June, on what would have been Marilyn's 86th birthday, Lady Gaga tweeted 'Happy Birthday Marilyn - They'll never take our blonde hair and lipstick,' along with a picture of herself, Monroe-like.
But why has Marilyn's appeal only gotten stronger? 'First of all, she died very young,' says Lois Banner, Monroe's latest biographer, freezing her image for eternity.
But another reason is the existence of thousands of photographs of Marilyn, bursting with life.
'She's conceivably the most photographed person of the 20th century,' says Banner. The author's third reason is more cynical: 'There's a lot of people making money off her,' she says.
And this is why the memorabilia is fetching such high prices, even half a century after her untimely death.
'Film posters always sell well at VintageSeekers.com, we've only just launched this particular collection of Marilyn Monroe items online but in the past we have sold similar items very quickly, for this collection prices start at £3,000' said Lucy Evans, Co-Founder of VintageSeekers.com.
'In the case of Marilyn items, our clients tend to be collectors but a few are gift buyers looking for really unique presents that look like a lot of thought has been given to the purchase!

'Memorabilia icons like Marilyn command higher prices than lesser known names as she is such an iconic figure and the collection we have consists of very rare, valuable items.
'Autographs in particular are a huge investment, and in the current climate, are a relatively safe bet for increasing well in value year on year.
'Marilyn Monroe's is one of the most collectible names!'
