Edgy Emma Watson pops her collar and chooses safety pins over earrings for magazine photo shoot

She has displayed an image far from that of character Hermione Granger since completing filming on the Harry Potter movie series.

And two years later Emma Watson continues to show how fashion forward she is on the cover of Nylon magazine.

The 22-year-old actress appears with her The Perks of Being a Wallflower co-stars, Logan Lerman and Ezra Miller but takes centre stage for the big shot.

The picture shows her holding the collar of a printed coat up, which is clinched in at the waist with a thin belt.

The screen star’s pixie cut hair is smoothed back away from her face to emphasise her blushed cheeks and pink frosted lips for the October 2012 edition.

Dubbed ‘the it issue’, Watson certainly does look cool as she peers at the camera with eyes that aren’t fully open.

During the photo shoot, Burberry model Emma apparently had her own ideas about how to make her shots get people talking. 

Michelle Reneau, Nylon‘s market editor, said: ‘She didn’t want to wear earrings – so at one point she took an actual safety pin, cut off the sharp end, and put it through her ear.’

The former child star got a helping hand in growing up emotionally from working on her current movie.

The film is a coming-of-age story based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, and sees Emma star alongside Logan Lerman (3:10 to Yuma) and Ezra Miller (We Need to Talk About Kevin) in the story of an introvert freshman who is taken under the wings of two seniors.

Emma plays the role of Sam, Patrick's (played by Miller) free-spirited step-sister, whom Charlie (played by Lerman) falls for.

She said: 'This film felt like an accelerated adolescence for me because in a seven-week span I got to experience everything I missed growing up.'
